Pizza Sauce

Pizza sauce made from scratch using fresh tomatoes. This Pizza Sauce Recipe is a versatile dip, spread and sauce which can be used for so many Italian dishes. Use it as pizza sauce, pasta sauce, bread pizza, pizza sandwiches, wraps or as a spread in anything you like.

Ingredients
  

  • 1 Kg Tomatoes
  • Water as required
  • 1/4th Cup Olive Oil
  • 4 Tbsp Finely Chopped Garlic
  • 2 Tbsp Chilli Flakes (or as per taste)
  • 1 Tbsp Mixed Herbs
  • 1/4th Cup Finely Chopped Onion
  • Salt to taste

Instructions
 

Blanch Tomatoes –

  • Boil water in a sauce pan.
  • Wash tomatoes and remove the tip. Make 2 slits vertically in cross section.
  • Transfer the tomatoes in boiled water. Switch off the flame, cover and let it rest till its starts to peel off.

Make Tomato Puree -

  • Strain excess water. Let the tomatoes cool down.
  • Peel off the skin.
  • Transfer the tomatoes to a mixer jar.
  • Blend to a fine puree.

Make Sauce –

  • Heat oil in a pan. Add finely chopped garlic, red chilli flakes and mixed herbs. Mix well
  • Now add finely chopped onion. Give it a mix. Cook for 3-4 mins.
  • Next add freshly made tomato puree and salt. Mix well
  • Cover and give it a boil.
  • Lower the flame and simmer on a low flame for 45 mins. to 1 hour or till you get desired consistency.
  • Keep stirring in between.
  • Cook till oil starts to float on top and you get the desired consistency.
  • Let it cool. Transfer to an air tight glass jar.
  • Use as required.

• Use fresh and red tomatoes.
• Adjust spice level to taste.
• Add extra oil and salt, in case you want to preserve.
