Barbeque Nation’s most loved starters. The crisp fried potatoes topped with cajun spiced creamy mayo is super easy to make at home.
If you are planning to have get together at home, this would make a perfect party starter.
My family is more excited about the starters than the main course whenever we visit Barbeque nation. So, I thought of making this Barbeque Nation potato starter recipe at home.
Instead of deep frying I have air fried them. This Cajun Potatoes Recipe is relatively a healthier recipe. The best part of cooking at home is that you can alter the recipe as per your mood.

How to prepare for Cajun Spiced Potato –
Wash & boil potaoes. Strain excess water, let them cool.
Prepare cajun spice, if using homemade.
How to make Cajun Potatoes –
Once the boiled potatoes cooled down, slightly press them. Dip them in slurry and air fry or deep fry them.
Mix mayonnaise with milk and cajun spice.
Top the potatoes with cajun spiced mayonnaise. Garnish with finely chopped onion. Serve hot.
How to make cajun spice seasoning at home –
In a mixing bowl add paprika powder (3 Tbsp), kosher salt (2 Tbsp), garlic powder (2 Tbsp), ground black pepper (1 Tbsp), grounded white pepper (1 Tbsp) , onion powder (1 Tbsp) , dried oregano (1 Tbsp) , cayenne (1 Tbsp) and thyme (1/2 Tbsp).
Mix everything well and its ready to be used.
Store it in an air tight container.
Things to keep in mind while making Cajun Potatoes –
- The potatoes should be nicely washed.
- Do not overboil the potatoes.
- Strain all the excess water and let them cool down completely before pressing them.
- Adjust the consistency of mayonnaise with milk.
- The slurry should not be too runny else it will not stick to the potatoes.
- Deep fry in hot oil till golden crisp.
- Add the mayonnaise right before the serving, else it will turn soggy.
Step by Step Recipe of Barbeque Nation Style Potato Starter -
Boil Potatoes –
- Wash baby potatoes thoroughly.
- In a pressure cooked boil the potatoes for 2 whistles (or until 80% cooked), with peels on.
- Open the pressure cooker only when steam is released by itself.
- Strain excess water and let them cool.
Topping –
Slurry –
- In a bowl, add rice flour or maida or cornflour.
- Add water, salt and pepper.
- Mix well to make a thick slurry.
Deep Frying or Air Frying –
- When potatoes are cooled down, press them gently.
- Dip them in slurry and make sure they are well coated.
- Deep fry in a hot oil till golden brown.
- To Air Fry – Pre heat air-fryer at 200C. Cook for about 10 mins or until golden brown.
- Brush them with oil in between and turn over to cook evenly from all sides.
Assembling –
- Spread potatoes in a plate.
- Top it generously with the cajun spiced mayo.
- Garnish with finely chopped onion and coriander (optional). But this will add nice crunch.
How to serve Cajun Spiced Potatoes –
Cajun Potatoes makes for a great appetizer or starters for a party or get-together at home.
Keep the deep-fried potatoes and topping ready. Just before serving, reheat the potatoes (in an air fryer or OTG). Top it with cajun spiced mayo, right before serving.
To make a complete meal add Corn Pakoda for the starters.
For mains serve Hyderabadi Dum Biryani with vegetable raita.

- Milk to adjust the consistency

- Finely Chopped Onion (Optional)
