This recipe of homemade pizza sauce is prepared from scratch using fresh tomatoes. You will not require any canned tomatoes or tomato puree for this recipe.
It is super easy to make with simple pantry ingredients, all you need is patience while cooking. It takes good 45 mins. to an hour to get the desired consistency, texture and taste. But its all worth the wait.
The best part about this homemade pizza sauce is that it has no preservatives and can be refrigerated for about 15 days.

How to prepare for Homemade Pizza Sauce Recipe –
Blanch tomatoes, peel and let them cool.
Finely chop onion and garlic. Keep other ingredients ready.
How to blanch tomatoes –
Boil water in a sauce pan. Meanwhile, wash tomatoes, remove the top.
Make 2 vertical slits in cross.
Transfer tomatoes to boiling water. Switch off the flame, cover and let it rest till it starts to peel off. Strain excess water, allow them to cool.
How to Make Best Ever Tomato Pizza Sauce –
Once the tomatoes are cooled down, peel them. Roughly chop and make fine puree. If you like a chunky texture, do not make it a smooth puree while blending.
Heat olive oil in a sauce pan. Add garlic, red chilli flakes, mixed herbs. Give it a mix.
To it, add finely chopped onions and cook for a while. Now add blanched tomato puree. Simmer for 40-45 mins. Keep stirring in between.
Add salt and cook till you get desired consistency.
Things to keep in mind to make perfect Sauce –
1. Use fresh tomatoes, which are red and ready to use.
2. Always a good idea to use good quality olive oil for best flavours.
3. You can skip onion if you prefer very fine and smooth consistency.
4. Add garlic and red chilli flakes while the oil is still warm to infuse flavours in oil.
5. Simmer on a low flame till you get the desired consistency. Slow cooking will yield the best taste.
6. If you are looking to preserve it for a longer time, add extra salt and oil which will act as preservatives.
How to use Pizza Sauce alternatively –
This pizza sauce is not just used for pizzas but is multipurpose. It can be used as a dip with nachos and chips.
As a spread in wraps, khakra or papad, grilled sandwiches, open sandwiches.
How to preserve Pizza Sauce at home –
If you plan to preserve for a longer time, add extra salt and oil. Salt and oil act as preservatives.
Store in a sterilized and dry, air tight glass container in a refrigerator.
Step by Step Pizza Sauce Recipe –
Blanch Tomatoes –
1. Boil water in a sauce pan.
2. Wash tomatoes and remove the tip. Make 2 slits vertically in cross section.
3. Transfer the tomatoes in boiled water. Switch off the flame, cover and let it rest till its starts to peel off.
Make Tomato Puree -
4. Strain excess water. Let the tomatoes cool down.
5. Peel off the skin.
6. Transfer the tomatoes to a mixer jar.
7. Blend to a fine puree.
Make Sauce –
8. Heat (lukewarm) oil in a pan. Add finely chopped garlic, red chilli flakes and mixed herbs. Mix well.
9. Now add finely chopped onion. Give it a mix. Cook for 3-4 mins.
10. Next add freshly made tomato puree and salt. Mix well.
11. Cover and give it a boil.
12. Lower the flame and simmer on a low flame for 45 mins. to 1 hour or till you get desired consistency.
13. Keep stirring in between.
14. Cook till oil starts to float on top and you get the desired consistency.
15. Let it cool. Transfer to an air tight glass jar.
16. Use as required.

- 1 Kg Tomatoes
- Water as required
- 1/4th Cup Olive Oil
- 4 Tbsp Finely Chopped Garlic
- 2 Tbsp Chilli Flakes (or as per taste)
- 1 Tbsp Mixed Herbs
- 1/4th Cup Finely Chopped Onion
- Salt to taste
Instructions
